President's Message - March 2018

Posted: 29th March 2018, 3:55pm

I am delighted to be writing this column as your new Preside In so doing, on behalf of us all I want to thank David Clarke for his outstanding leadership over the last 3 years. It’s evident how much David invested in the Chamber and its members, creating such a positive environment in which we have continued to flourish.  David passes on the baton with the Chamber in a strong position, as a voice of authority locally: the opinion of the Chamber is one valued by many other organisations. And I’d like to extend my thanks to those directors retiring from office who have given such great service to the Chamber and our City and District.

Taking on the role of President is a daunting prospect but an exciting one and an opportunity I relish, to contribute further to the work of the Chamber and to represent and promote businesses in the District. I look forward to getting to know many more of you and forging strong relations over the coming months.

Great things in business are never done by one person – they are done by a team of people. We have a superb team of directors giving their time voluntarily to deliver a varied programme and ensure we are effective force in business. And of course, it is you the members that make the Chamber the vibrant organisation that it is.

I’ve lived in St Albans since I was 6 months old, was educated here and have spent my entire working life so far here in the city. So while I can’t say I’m St Albans born I’m certainly St Albans bred and I’m passionate about our great city and district. I want to see it flourish and, notwithstanding the pressures facing us, to offer opportunities to as many people as possible, particularly the young – the next generation of business leaders.

I look forward to enjoying the forthcoming Chamber year. Let’s inspire one another and continue to expand opportunities for all – upholding the reputation of St Albans District Chamber of Commerce as a good place to do business and of businesses doing good.
