The Chamber Voice - August 2019

Posted: 4th September 2019, 12:57pm

Have you got post-holiday blues or are you raring to go as the autumn season approaches? Either way, the Chamber is here to support you in your business activities.

We have a full programme of events between now and Christmas (have I really mentioned that word in August?), offering various networking, sponsorship and CPD opportunities.

The highlight of the autumn season is our Community Business Awards evening at The Noke Hotel on Thursday 10th October. The finalists in the nine categories have now been announced: you can view the shortlisted names on our website. Once again, these finalists demonstrate the inspirational work taking place and wealth of talent being deployed in our District. Much of this activity is taking place under the radar, making our Awards the chance to recognise and reward publicly the immense contribution of individuals, companies and organisations to the business and wider community. I invite you and your colleagues to join us at this prestigious event – just visit the website to book your place or table.

Recognising that many of you have school runs and other early morning commitments, we are introducing a number of Brunch business meetings, kicking off at 9.30am. Our first one, last week at the newly refurbished The George of Harpenden, (yes, ok, this one was in the school holidays!) was sold out, with Claire Boyles from Success Matters giving tips for networking to both the novice and seasoned networker. It was great to see so many new faces in attendance. Your feedback has confirmed that there is clearly a desire for the occasional brunch meeting alongside our breakfasts.

Another date for the diary is our Winter Ball at Sopwell House Hotel on Saturday 16th November. Sponsorship opportunities are now available for this dazzling occasion, representing an excellent way to raise your business profile. Just contact Anna and Emma at the Chamber Office for more details.

Places are filling up for our networking lunch at Thompson's on Friday 6th September and for our next Business Breakfast at St Villa on Wednesday 25th September, when Zee Razaq, Managing Director of Certax Accounting will guide us through Making Tax Digital.

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Alastair Woodgate
Chamber President
