President's Message - September 2020

Posted: 7th September 2020, 1:16pm

I hope you have been able to make the most of this unusual summer. I look forward to catching up with as many of you as possible this Wednesday morning on our Zoom networking meeting: this is a great opportunity to say ‘hello’ and share with fellow members your news and views - and perhaps meet a few new faces. It’s important that we keep in touch with each other.

We are now just three weeks away from our Community Business Awards Evening on Thursday 30 September. Yet again, I’ve been bowled over by the talent, initiative, determination and passion being displayed by business people in our district. The Awards ceremony is going online this year, for obvious reasons, but it will no less an occasion as a result, and we want you to join us. And a huge “thank you” to our sponsors for enabling us to stage the event this year.

The Awards Ceremony will go out via Zoom to those of you who have subscribed beforehand, and during the Awards you’ll be able to join in the chat online and congratulate the winners. Maybe you are one of our winners?

The ceremony will last around 45 minutes following which we’ll continue with an ‘After Show Party’ online. Tickets are just £15 per person which includes an Awards Programme, mini bottle of wine and snack, available beforehand for collection or delivered to your door. It would be great to have your company. Please see the booking details in this Bulletin.

As for so many businesses, these are testing times, financially, for the Chamber and without our usual events, our income has declined significantly. We have reduced our outgoings as much as we can but the next few months will be challenging for us. Your attendance at the Awards will not only enhance the sense of occasion but will help us financially as well.

As soon as we can start holding larger scale events we will of course do so. In the meantime, we plan to hold some networking sessions, with guest speakers, in venues that can accommodate a maximum of 30 people, adhering to social distancing rules. If your venue is able to welcome us in the near future do please let Emma know.

With best wishes

Alastair Woodgate
Chamber President
