Our 13th Community Business Awards were held at Sopwell House last Friday (14 October), celebrating the achievements of some amazing individuals and local businesses from young employees and green champions to entrepreneurs and business leaders.

The 2022 winners were Kirston Jarrett (Young Employee), WUKA (Sustainability), Per Tutti (Best Restaurant), Nationwide Building Society (Excellence in Customer Service), Buff & Bare (New Business), ADS Smart Home (Business Growth) and Jamie Allam (Business Leader) with Raihaanah Ahmed being the recipient of the prestigious President’s Award for an outstanding contribution and exceptional commitment to our community.

We also launched the Michael Weaver Community Impact Award this year in honour of Michael Weaver who passed away in June to recognise his 50 years of unwavering support for the Chamber and the huge impact he had on the local community. The inaugural recipient of this Award was Men of Fields, a collective of dads with children who attend or have attended Garden Fields primary school, who have raised £140,000 with their fundraising efforts. We are sure Michael would have approved.

The videos for all the finalists can be viewed on our YouTube channel:

A raffle on the night raised £1,835 for Youth Talk. Fundraising Manager for Youth Talk Rachel Simkin said, “I am absolutely thrilled with the support from everyone who attended the Awards. Your donations will help our local charity continue to provide free, one-to-one confidential counselling support to 13 – 25 year olds during a time of great need. We are hugely grateful to Lumin Wealth for organising the raffle with the Chamber and the opportunity to not only raise much needed funds but vital awareness of our service.”

Regina Rodriguez, Social Media and Events Co-ordinator, said “The quality of the nominations, shortlists, and winners for this year’s Community Business Awards is incredibly impressive. It has been thrilling to be part of the behind-the-scenes buzz surrounding the entire judging process. The skills, talent, and service of the business and philanthropic communities in the St Albans District are unmatched, and it has been a pleasure to organise such a lovely and successful night to celebrate the best of the best.”

Emma Fisher, Membership and Marketing Manager, added “I really would encourage local businesses to get involved with our Awards. There is no cost to participate, and you do not have to be a member. Our Awards give businesses the opportunity to increase their brand awareness and promote themselves to new customers and markets as well as recognise the hard work of their employees.”

Thanks to sponsors Lumin Wealth, Sustainable St Albans, The Herts Advertiser, STANTA, HSBC UK, St Albans BID and Rayner Essex, without whom the entire awards process would not be possible.
