International Women’s Day Lunch 2023
Join us for a drinks reception and three course lunch to celebrate International Women’s Day at the independent Aubrey Park Hotel situated between the historic city of St Albans and the old town of Hemel Hempstead. This event gives you an opportunity to network with other members of the local business community and features keynote speaker, Emma Henderson MBE, and an interactive discussion, led by Chamber Vice President Cheryl Luzet, covering issues affecting women in the workplace.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is #EmbraceEquity. Imagine a gender equal world. A world free of bias, stereotypes, and discrimination. A world that’s diverse, equitable, and inclusive. A world where difference is valued and celebrated. Together we can forge women’s equality. Collectively we can all #EmbraceEquity. Our event is open to all and men are most welcome to attend. Forging gender equity isn’t limited to women solely fighting the good fight. Allies are incredibly important for the social, economic, cultural, and political advancement of women.
About our Keynote Speaker
Captain Emma Henderson MBE
There are more endangered Bengal tigers in the world than female airline captains! Emma Henderson was a member of this rare and special flying club with a career spanning 30 years.
Emma’s career started in the RAF and finished as an easyJet Captain and along the way, she learned valuable lessons about keeping all the plates spinning juggling flight training with three young children and being a military wife as well as how to lead with humility and authenticity, and the importance of prioritising her own wellbeing as she faced a life-threatening illness.
As the world began to shut down in March 2020, Emma knew she would not be flying again for some time. She saw an opportunity to support the NHS in their darkest hour whilst giving her colleagues in the industry a much-needed sense of purpose and Project Wingman, a national charity with airline crew providing well-being support to frontline NHS staff, was born. Since then, Project Wingman’s volunteer base has swelled to 6,500 airline crew throughout the UK, serving over 100 NHS Trusts.
Emma’s outstanding contribution to the social good has been recognised with multiple awards and nominations which include a MBE in January 2021 and Woman of the Year nomination in 2021.

Founded in 2006 by Gayle and Mark Barnard, Contrasol Ltd is a specialist contractor providing Brise Soleil and Solar Shading to the UK and International construction market. Our systems reduce the solar heat gain within all types of buildings, minimising or removing the need for air conditioning and other mechanical cooling devices, therefore contributing to a more energy efficient and sustainable building.
We offer a design, supply and installation service for our large range of architectural systems and products, which include Solar shading, External shutters, Louvres and Bespoke metal work. As a design driven company we constantly look to develop and expand our product range to meet our customers architectural and functional building needs.
Contrasol has grown and developed over the years, to become a dynamic, honest and client driven company. Resisting the temptation to expand too rapidly, the company has nonetheless grown annually, largely on the strength of repeat business from established customers. Contrasol has always been based in St Albans, our aim has been to network with local professionals and businesses to help us grow and specifically to bring in skills we might not have in house. We actively support and promote local charities and enjoy being part of the local community even when our work might take us further afield.
In an industry that has a low percentage of women in the work force Contrasol is proud that women are represented in all parts of the business, Management, Finance, Design and Projects. We are always looking for ways to encourage more women to work in construction and look forward to attending this International Women’s Day event.
