The Secretary of State for Education the Right Hon. Michael Gove MP attended a Chamber Networking lunch at Sopwell House Hotel on 11th October. He spoke briefly before taking questions from the floor.

There were representatives from 30 different Schools, Colleges and 2 Universities in attendance. The sponsor was Oaklands College who were very pleased to work with the Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber Director, Lisa Bates said "It was a real coup to have the Secretary of State for Education Michael Gove MP at our event, a great opportunity for the head teachers and school governors present to ask him direct questions about the issues they face. I think he tackled the questions fairly and answered them all with knowledge and a sense of responsibility and understanding.

The St Albans Chamber of Commerce is very keen to find ways to support young people and encourage stronger links between education and business in the future to give youngsters more opportunity to gain beneficial skills and training in the workplace. We would like to promote more work experience placements and apprenticeships within the business community in the district to address this"
