President's Message - January 2015
Happy New Year. 2015 promises to be an exciting year for the country, for our District and for the Chamber.
The General Election in May can rightly be stated as being of great importance and we urge everybody to vote. For business the most important requirement is that we have a government, coalition or not, that has the votes to carry though its legislative programme. The Chamber is holding a Question Time with all of the St Albans candidates on 25 March. We did this five years ago and it was a great opportunity to ask the candidates what they and their parties planned for the country. Book your tickets with the Chamber office or online.
In the District the Chamber welcomes the appointment of Richard Marrett as City Centre Manager. The role is essential for the future prosperity of St Albans, especially the retailers, and we know that Richard is capable of making the best of his new position. We, and in particular Chamber director Alastair Woodgate, have been working hard for many years to be able to appoint a City Centre Manager. On 8 January we launched the City of Expertise. This is an initiative by a number of local professional firms to tell the world that St Albans is a first class location for professional advice. The initiative is backed by the Chamber and St Albans District Council.
The Chamber has a full and increased programme of events planned for the year. We continue to expand our programme and our events continue to be sold out. We intend to work hard to maintain this success. Our lunch on 30 January is sold out. The next events are Speed Networking on 10th February, our first Curry Night sponsored by EIC Insurance on Thursday 26th February then 2 great events in March.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
