President's Message December 2015

As we draw nearer to the festive break and the turn of the new year, it provides me with an excellent opportunity to reflect on the year just gone at the Chamber and look ahead to what will undoubtedly be a packed and exciting 2016.

2015 saw us embracing new technology with the launch of the new St Albans District Chamber of Commerce App where you can find everything you need to know about the Chamber and our activities and available support in one easily accessible place.

With the 2015 General Election set for May, our members had an opportunity in March to get up close and personal with our local candidates at our hustings event held at the Town Hall, the site which will house the brand new St Albans Museum and Gallery.

In June we embarked on our first ever St Albans Business Festival which saw the Chamber partner with stakeholders comprising media, local government, professional firms and local businesses to showcase the many benefits of doing business right here in our amazing city.

Our series of Business Breakfasts alongside our lunchtime and early evening networking events  also served to share with our members  the unique attributes accessible in our business community and we are so grateful to all of our speakers and sponsors who made all of these events possible.

Keeping to our networking theme, our ever popular speed networking sessions continued to provide an informal and open environment in which members, both longstanding and new, can get to widen their contact base and make new fruitful business connections resulting in referral business.

In October, we got the opportunity to celebrate the very best businesses in our community as nominated by you our members and I never tire of watching the online videos. These clips  demonstrate what an unbelievably vibrant business community we work with and also how happy and proud each of the nominees and winners were of their businesses and their colleagues who work with them to make them a success.

And finally, I must turn my attentions to our showcase events of the year, the St George's Day Lunch and the Chamber Ball at which photographic evidence courtesy of the Herts Ad would certainly suggest that everyone had a jolly good time!!! The two events also enabled us to make large charity donations on your behalf to Home Start and the St Albans Museum Project which I know has made a huge difference to their fundraising efforts this year.
So to 2016 and you will be glad to hear that we plan more of the same with some exciting new events  planned so do keep checking our events calendar for news. In particular, I am personally very keen to facilitate a forum to discuss the growing demand and reducing supply for commercial premises and we hope to be in a position to announce something early in the new year on this subject.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with you all during 2015 and I do sincerely hope that you have found value in your membership and the services, resources and events provided.

I would like to wish you a very merry Christmas and an happy and prosperous new year from everyone at the St albans District Chamber of Commerce and we look forward to working with you in 2016 after we have all enjoyed a restful and fun filled festive break.
