Wow! Our St George’s Day Lunch made a triumphant return to its traditional slot for the first time since 2019 last month. We raised £14,000 from the raffle and auction for our two nominated charities, Home-Start Hertfordshire and The Blue Tangerine, who both play a hugely important role in supporting children and families in our local community. Once again, I would like to thank our sponsors who have enabled this event to go ahead and to all our guests who attended and helped to make it such a special day. I hope everybody enjoyed it as much as I did.

I would also like to thank Martin Purvis who led an extremely useful workshop on what makes the best businesses so successful.
 
As you are aware, we have launched our Community Business Awards for 2022 and we would welcome as many nominations as possible. There are eight award categories: Young Employee, Sustainability, Best Restaurant, Excellence in Customer Service, New Business, Business Growth, Business Leader and The President’s Award. Criteria for the award categories and nomination forms are on the website so please get your thinking caps on!
 
Events this month include a Menopause and the Workplace seminar hosted by Debenhams Ottaway on Thursday, a Quiz Night plus our AGM at the Old Albanian Club on the 19 May and finally a business breakfast with MP for Hitchin and Harpenden Bim Afolami as guest speaker which is taking place at the Herts County Showground on the 27 May. Our Events and Marketing Manager Anna Venetico will be leaving us this month to take some time out to spend with her young family. Anna says, ‘I have had a brilliant five years at the Chamber. It has been a privilege to have served the St Albans business community and I have loved getting to know all our members who I look forward to seeing at future events.’ We will miss you Anna and on behalf of the Chamber Board and its members I would like to thank you for everything you have done.
 
In other staff news, we are delighted to welcome Regina Rodriguez who has joined the team as our Events and Marketing Coordinator and will be your main point of contact for any events related enquiries. She is looking forward to meeting everyone soon.
